Environment Profiles

Environment profiles control the default look of a world: sky, fog, ambient light, exposure, tone mapping, lighting preset, and post preset.

Built-In Presets

Gessa ships six presets:

  • Studio
  • Outdoor Day
  • Outdoor Sunset
  • Indoor
  • Night
  • Stylized

Studio is the default for fresh 3D projects. It uses ACES tone mapping and neutral lighting so PBR materials read correctly before creator tuning.

Authored Source

World metadata owns the authored WorldEnvironmentProfile. Runtime projection resolves it into SceneSnapshot.environment, and RenderEngine applies it. Cameras can override tone mapping, exposure, anti-aliasing, color grading, vignette, and post preset.

Tone Mapping

Supported modes are ACES, AgX, Reinhard, Neutral, and Linear. ACES is the default policy. AgX is available for stylized or high-dynamic-range scenes that need a different shoulder and color response.

Sky And IBL

The visible sky and image-based lighting map are separate. A world can show a color, gradient, skybox, or HDR-style environment while also using an environment map for PBR reflections.

Reflection probes can be added for local box or sphere reflections. Probe baking is editor-driven and stores the baked cubemap strip as a texture asset.
